Privacy Policy

Clear, local-first, and built for students.

FlashPrep keeps core study data on the device first. Optional Google sign-in enables backup, restore, and FlashPrep+ access.

Introduction

FlashPrep is a study timer and study tracking application developed and maintained by Abhineet Srivastava.

This Privacy Policy explains what information FlashPrep collects or stores, how that information is used, and the choices available to users regarding their data.

FlashPrep is designed as an offline-first application. Most study data remains stored locally on your device. Optional features such as Google Sign-In, cloud backup and restore, and FlashPrep+ use Firebase services provided by Google.

Information We Collect and Store

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

FlashPrep stores the following information locally to provide its core functionality:

  • Study sessions and study time
  • Subjects
  • Daily goals and goal history
  • Study Momentum data
  • Notes
  • To-do items
  • Profile preferences
  • App settings

This information is stored only on your device unless you choose to enable cloud backup.

Information Stored in Firebase

To support account-related features, FlashPrep may create a Firebase user account when the app is first opened.

If you choose to sign in with Google, FlashPrep may store:

  • Firebase User ID
  • Google account email address
  • Google display name
  • Google profile photo URL, if available
  • Your FlashPrep display name
  • Account connection status
  • FlashPrep+ subscription/access status
  • App version and platform information
  • Backup and synchronization metadata

If cloud backup is enabled, your study data may also be securely stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore so it can be restored when signing in on another device.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to:

  • Provide FlashPrep's study tracking features
  • Save and restore your study data
  • Keep your study data available across supported devices
  • Synchronize study data when cloud backup is enabled
  • Manage FlashPrep+ access and account status
  • Provide customer support when you share your FlashPrep Access ID
  • Improve the reliability, stability, and security of account and backup features
We do not:
  • Sell your personal information
  • Share your study data for advertising purposes
  • Use your study data to deliver personalized advertisements
  • Display third-party advertisements inside the app

Google Sign-In

Google Sign-In is completely optional.

If you choose to sign in with Google, FlashPrep uses your Google account only for:

  • Secure account authentication
  • Cloud backup and restore
  • FlashPrep+ access management

Your Google display name does not replace the name you choose to use within FlashPrep unless you choose to change it.

Cloud Backup and Restore

FlashPrep treats the data stored on your device as the primary source of truth.

When signed in with Google, FlashPrep may automatically back up your study data to Firebase approximately once per day whenever an internet connection is available.

If you install FlashPrep on another device and sign in using the same Google account, your backed-up study data can be restored.

If you do not sign in, your study data remains only on your device and may be permanently lost if the app is uninstalled or its data is cleared.

Cloud Data

Data Security

We use Firebase Security Rules and standard platform security features to help protect account information and cloud-stored study data.

While we take reasonable measures to safeguard your information, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
